How to Block an Account or Website on Pinterest

· 6 min read

To block an account on Pinterest, open the person’s profile, click or tap the ellipsis icon (three dots), choose Block, and confirm. They can no longer follow you, message you or interact with your pins, and they aren’t notified. Pinterest has no built-in way to block a whole website, though, so pins from sites like a spammy store keep showing up unless you use a filter.

Here’s how both work, with steps for desktop and the app.

How do I block someone on Pinterest?

These steps follow Pinterest’s help article on how to block or unblock someone. Pinterest changes its menus from time to time, so labels may look slightly different on your device.

On desktop

  1. Go to the profile of the account you want to block. Clicking their name on any pin gets you there.
  2. Click the ellipsis icon under their profile details. On a business account, it’s in the top-right corner.
  3. Click Block.
  4. Click Block again to confirm, then OK.

In the iPhone or Android app (and mobile browser)

  1. Open the account’s profile.
  2. Tap the ellipsis icon. On business accounts, it’s in the top-right corner.
  3. Tap Block.
  4. Tap Block again to confirm.

What happens when you block someone on Pinterest?

According to Pinterest’s help center:

  • The person can’t follow you, message you or interact with your pins.
  • They don’t get a notification that you blocked them. They only see an alert if they try to follow you or interact with your pins.
  • Their pins stop appearing in your home feed. You may still see them in search results and on group boards.
  • Pins you already saved from them stay on your boards. You can edit or delete those yourself.

That third point surprises people. Blocking is mainly a safety tool for stopping someone from reaching you. It isn’t a full “never show me this account again” filter.

If someone is harassing you, Pinterest also asks you to report it, and to contact local law enforcement if you feel unsafe.

Where is the Pinterest blocked accounts list?

Your blocked accounts live under Settings > Social permissions > Blocked accounts.

On desktop

  1. Log in and click the settings icon at the bottom left of the screen. On a business account, use the down-arrow at the top right.
  2. Go to Settings, then Social permissions.
  3. Scroll to Blocked accounts and select Edit list.
  4. Click Unblock next to an account and confirm.

In the app

  1. Tap your profile photo at the bottom right, then tap your profile photo at the top left to open settings. On a business account, tap the ellipsis at the top right and then Settings.
  2. Go to Social permissions. Some app versions call it Social permissions and activity.
  3. Tap Blocked accounts, then Unblock next to the account and confirm.

You can also unblock someone directly from their profile: the Unblock option sits where the block option was (under the ellipsis on mobile and on business accounts).

Can you block a website on Pinterest?

No. Pinterest lets you block accounts, but it doesn’t offer a way to block a website or domain from your feed. Its help pages on hiding pins from your home feed and tuning your home feed cover “see fewer like this”, unfollowing, AI content and activity settings, and none of them mention websites or domains.

That matters because a lot of unwanted pins don’t come from one account. Pins linking to the same store or content farm can be saved and re-saved by thousands of different accounts. Blocking one of them does almost nothing.

What you can do natively:

  1. Use “See fewer like this.” Click or tap the ellipsis at the bottom right of a pin in your home feed and pick See fewer like this (or See less in some app versions). It’s a signal, not a block, so similar pins can still return.
  2. Unfollow the source. If the pin came from a board, topic or account you follow, unfollow it.
  3. Report real spam. If pins break Pinterest’s community guidelines, report them from the same menu.
  4. Turn down shopping content. Many unwanted “website” pins are product pins. Our guide to turning off shopping pins on Pinterest covers what Pinterest lets you change there.

If the problem is mostly ads from big marketplaces, we wrote a separate post on how to stop Temu and Amazon ads on Pinterest, since ads follow different rules than regular pins.

How to hide every pin from a website or account

This is the gap we built “Block sites and accounts” for, in Feed Cleaner Pro. (Feed Cleaner is our extension.)

With Block sites and accounts, you add a website (like temu.com or aliexpress.com) or a Pinterest account (@name), and the extension hides every pin from it as you browse. You can paste a link to a pin, a profile or a site, or just type the name.

How it differs from Pinterest’s own block:

Pinterest blockFeed Cleaner “Block sites and accounts”
Blocks a personYesHides their pins only
Blocks a website or domainNoYes
Stops them following or messaging youYesNo
Works in the phone appsYesNo (it needs a browser)
CostFreePart of Feed Cleaner Pro

So the two work well together. Use Pinterest’s block when you want someone to stop reaching you. Use the extension when you just never want to see a source again, whether that’s a person or a whole website.

A few honest notes:

  • It’s a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi, installed from the Chrome Web Store or addons.mozilla.org. It does not work in the Pinterest phone apps themselves, though Firefox on Android and Orion on iPhone will run it.
  • Hiding happens in your browser. It doesn’t block anyone on Pinterest, and they aren’t notified.
  • Pro starts with a 3-day free trial automatically, no card needed, then $2.99 a month, $19.99 a year or $39 lifetime.
  • Pro also includes a keyword filter for hiding pins whose title or description contains words you choose, which helps when the same junk comes from many different sites.
  • The free version removes ads and promoted pins. We aren’t affiliated with Pinterest.

FAQ

How do I see who I blocked on Pinterest?

Go to Settings > Social permissions > Blocked accounts. On desktop, click Edit list to manage it. In some app versions the section is called Social permissions and activity.

Does someone know if you block them on Pinterest?

Not directly. Pinterest doesn’t send them a notification. They’ll only see an alert if they try to follow you or interact with your pins.

Why do I still see pins from an account I blocked?

Blocking removes their pins from your home feed, but Pinterest says you may still see them in search results and group boards. Copies of their pins saved by other people may also still appear.

How do I block a website on the Pinterest app?

You can’t, in the app or on desktop. The closest native options are “See fewer like this” and unfollowing. On a computer, a browser extension filter can hide all pins from a domain.

Wrapping up

Blocking a person on Pinterest takes a few taps and stops them from contacting you, and you can undo it any time from Settings > Social permissions > Blocked accounts. Blocking a website is a different story: Pinterest doesn’t offer it, so use “See fewer like this” and unfollowing on your phone, and a domain filter on desktop if one source keeps flooding your feed.
